恭读宗徒大事录 15:7-21
宗徒和长老辩论多时之后,伯多禄起来向他们说:“诸位仁人弟兄!你们深知,多时以前,天主就 在你们中选定了,要藉我的口,叫外邦人听福音的道理而信从。洞察人心的天主,已为他们作了证,因为赐给了他们圣神,如同赐给了我们一样,在我们和他们中间 没有作任何区别,因他以信德净化了他们的心。既然如此,现今你们为什么试探天主,在门徒的颈项上,放上连我们的祖先和我们自己都不能负荷的轭呢?但是,我 们信我们得救,是藉着主耶稣的恩宠,正和他们一样。”于是众人都缄默不语,静听巴尔纳伯和保禄述说天主藉着他们在外邦人中,行了怎样大的征兆与奇迹。
大家都不出声之后,雅各伯接着说:“诸位仁人弟兄,请听我说!西满述说了天主当初怎样关心外 邦人,由他们中选拔一个百姓,属于自己名下;先知的话也正与此相合;如经上记载:‘以后我要回来,重建达味已倾倒的居所;已坍塌了的,要把它重建而竖起 来,为的是其余的人,即一切以我的名得名的民族,要寻求上主:这是很久以前,公布这事的主说的。’因此,按我的意见,不要再加给由外邦归依天主的人烦难, 只要函告他们戒避偶像的玷污和奸淫,戒食窒死之物和血;因为自古以来,在各城内都有宣讲梅瑟的人,每安息日在会堂中诵读他的书。”——上主的话。

宽仁的天主,你既赐给我们天上的食粮,求你使我们获得力量,好能革除旧习,善度新生。因主耶稣基督之名,求你俯听我们的祈祷。亚孟。
在讲论爱及遵守他的命令时,耶稣提到圆满无缺的喜乐。现代人却难于将爱和诫命相提并论。爱似乎具巨大的释放力,守诫命却好像被约束,限制了我们欢欢喜喜地去享受自由。所以,将爱和喜爱联上关系比较容易,守诫命则比较难于令人看出会带来喜乐。然而,这正是耶稣的讯息。
伯多禄在耶路撒冷教会的演词正好环绕这个话题。有些归依了的法利塞人仍坚持恪守固有的一切法律,伯多禄却强调由圣神启迪并推动的新看法。我们须按法律生 活,并守耶稣的诫命。耶稣没有鼓吹废除法律。我们需要做的:以守好法律的精神,喜乐地将固有的化为耶稣的新诫命。由爱推动,由喜乐焕发,我们就能守好耶稣 的诫命,宣布他的救恩,让天主的光荣临于天下。
主耶稣,以祢的诫命和爱的精神引导我们吧!
Yesterday's gospel gave us one of the most beautiful images that Jesus used to describe the unity and communion between Himself and His disciples/friends. Like a vine and its branches, He said. And His Father like the one who tends and cares for vine and branches. In the next verses (today's reading), He reveals how His love for His friends is just like the way His Father loves Him. It's an extension of His Father's love, drawing us all into the life of God Himself. Jesus urges His friends to "abide" ('live', 'remain') in His love. And the way to that is by keeping His commandments, just like His own love for the Father is expressed by His doing His Father's will. But the 'commandments' He tells us to keep are not just a list of rules or duties (as people sometimes complain), but to love Him and love each other. It's as simple as that. So simple that maybe we don't really believe it, and find it hard to accept the simplicity. We complicate things, asking questions about how to love, and who is my neighbour, and how often do I have to forgive etc. Jesus told His disciples about His love for them in order to share His love, and especially to share the joy He had in being loved by His Father and in loving us. 'Joy' is perhaps the most important word in all this, for love surely implies joy and rejoicing in the one we love and are loved by. There is no joy in merely keeping rules, but Jesus wanted our joy to be complete.
Lord, You are our joy and fulfillment.
